The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through its Department of Youth Affairs, is hosting three major BRICS youth events as part of India's 2026 BRICS Presidency. The BRICS Youth Council Meeting and BRICS Youth Summit will be held on August 19-20, 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, followed by the BRICS Youth Ministers' Meeting on August 22, 2026 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
India's BRICS Presidency is guided by the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability" with a 'people-centric' approach. Youth cooperation represents a key pillar of the BRICS framework, with India placing 'Yuva Shakti' at the center of its youth agenda. These August engagements build upon previous events during India's chairship, including a BRICS Youth Coordination Meeting held virtually on March 25, 2026 that launched the BRICS Youth Calendar of Activities.
Notably, India committed to accomplishing 1 million hours of volunteerism during the period from April 29, 2026 to July 31, 2026 through the Serve BRICS initiative, mobilizing young people across India via the MY Bharat platform. Other previous events included the BRICS Youth Entrepreneurship Working Group Meeting in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on May 20-21, 2026, and a BRICS Youth Thematic Session held virtually on June 24, 2026 that advanced discussions on key priority areas including Education, Entrepreneurship & Future Readiness; Inclusive Development & Youth Wellbeing; Sustainability & Environmental Responsibility; and People-to-People Cooperation & Youth Engagement.
The Youth Council Meeting will bring together official BRICS representatives to advance institutional dialogue, build consensus on the BRICS Youth Joint Statement and Cooperation Framework, and identify collaborative initiatives. The Youth Summit will gather young leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, volunteers and changemakers from BRICS Member and Partner Countries for thematic discussions and networking. The Youth Ministers' Meeting will review outcomes from the other events and adopt the Joint Ministerial Statement on Youth Cooperation.
