In the technology domain, the Joint Statement on Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence elevates the relationship to a strategic research and development partnership, providing a roadmap for cooperation across the entire AI technology stack. Specific institutional collaborations include the MOU between IndiaAI Mission and Japan's METI to promote cooperation through Japan's GENIAC initiative, featuring B2B matchmaking, webinars on AI policies, and support for joint projects through computing resources. Additional AI partnerships include the MOU between IIT Bombay, BharatGen Technology Foundation and National Institute of Japan for collaboration on large language models with focus on scientific reasoning, and the MOU between SarvamAI and Preferred Network on full AI technology stack cooperation including foundation models.
Energy security received significant attention with the Joint Statement on Energy Resilience between MoPNG and METI, Japan, which strengthens cooperation in strategic stockpiling and reserve mechanisms for crude oil and petroleum products while promoting collaboration in joint investments across maritime energy transport value chain. The Memorandum of Cooperation for India-Japan Cooperative Biogas for Growth Initiative aims to establish 1,000 biogas and organic fertilizer plants across India leveraging dairy cooperative networks.
Supply chain resilience features prominently with the Memorandum of Cooperation in Batteries to build trusted, resilient and sustainable battery supply chains, and the Memorandum of Cooperation in Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices to strengthen pharma supply chains including APIs and Key Starting Materials through bilateral investment, technical collaboration, and industry-academia partnerships. Critical minerals cooperation is addressed through the Memorandum of Cooperation in Geology and Mineral Exploration focusing on upstream exploration through technical expertise exchange.
Infrastructure and mobility partnerships are established through the Memorandum of Cooperation on Next Generation Mobility Partnership (NGMP), which creates a framework for private sector-led cooperation in rail, automotive, road infrastructure, aviation, shipbuilding, ports, logistics, and urban development, positioning India as a hub for "Make in India for the World" exports to third countries.
Research collaborations include the MOU between India's C-CAMP and RIKEN Japan for deep-tech and life sciences innovation in healthcare, agriculture and environment, and the MOU between National Center for Biological Sciences-Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and RIKEN for basic biological and neuroscience research cooperation.
Digital infrastructure cooperation is covered through the MOU between National Internet Exchange of India and Japan Network Information Center promoting cooperation in National Internet Registry operations, IPv6 adoption, internet security, capacity building, and internet governance discussions.
Financial services regulatory cooperation is established through the Exchange of Letters between IFSCA and Japan's Financial Services Agency for development, regulation and supervision of financial services with information exchange on financial-market trends, particularly in FinTech and RegTech.
The summit also outlined plans to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of India-Japan Diplomatic Relations in 2027 as the India-Japan Year of Shared Horizons with commemorative events.
