Mr. Yun Hojung, Minister of the Interior and Safety and Chairperson of the Republic of Korea-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, at Parliament House on June 19, 2026. Shri Birla emphasized the centuries-old civilizational ties between the two nations, noting their shared Buddhist heritage and people-to-people contacts. He reaffirmed India's commitment to deepening bilateral relations and highlighted both countries' status as leading Asian economies and vibrant democracies sharing common values of democracy, rule of law, and human-centred development.
The discussion identified several areas for enhanced collaboration, including emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, green energy, and semiconductors. Shri Birla highlighted India's large market and talented young workforce as attractive opportunities for Korean investment, particularly in infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. The Korean delegation commended India's infrastructure development and expressed interest in cooperating to produce world-class infrastructure in India.
H.E. Mr. Yun Hojung thanked Shri Birla for the hospitality and acknowledged existing cooperation in IT, AI, and automotive sectors. Notably, the Korean Minister expressed his country's willingness to join India's Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) to share best practices in disaster management. Both sides emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy through regular exchanges between lawmakers and Parliamentary Friendship Groups as effective platforms for dialogue and sharing best parliamentary practices.
