India Leads Global Jaggery Production with 70% Share

India accounts for over 70% of global jaggery production, supporting 2.5 million rural livelihoods through decentralized processing.
Jaggery exports surged 106.5% in value to $406.8 million between 2015-16 and 2024-25, with major markets including Indonesia and USA.
Government schemes PMKSY and PMFME have supported 3,528 jaggery units with ₹102.31 crore subsidies and approved 5 processing units with ₹17.07 crore grants.
Jaggery contains 10-13mg iron per 100g and is used in Tamil Nadu's nutrition program serving 32.75 lakh beneficiaries with 27% jaggery content.
