The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Google Arts & Culture on November 5, 2026, to digitize and share India's cultural heritage through digital tools. The virtual signing ceremony was attended by Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, and Mr Amit Sood, Vice President and Founder of Google Arts & Culture.
The partnership will encompass the digitization of monuments and archaeological sites protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, collections of national museums, manuscript heritage documented under Gyan Bharatam, and crafts, performing arts, and living traditions sustained by the Ministry's institutions. A central focus is the Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum, currently being developed in New Delhi's North and South Blocks, which will be digitized to create a lasting record of the buildings and artifacts.
The initiative aims to strengthen accessibility and expand digital offerings, making India's heritage available in Indian languages and accessible on any device. This represents a whole-of-Ministry approach combining preservation, public access, and the growth of India's creative economy. Google Arts & Culture has previously collaborated with Ministry institutions including the Archaeological Survey of India, National Museum, and National Gallery of Modern Art.
