23rd India-Myanmar National Level Meeting Concludes in New Delhi
The 23rd National Level Meeting between India and Myanmar was held on July 7-8, 2026, in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Myanmar delegation was led by Major General Min Thu, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Myanmar.
Both countries reaffirmed the importance of their longstanding friendship and close partnership, with India emphasizing that Myanmar occupies an important place in its Neighbourhood First, Act East, and MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) policies.
The meeting featured comprehensive discussions on bilateral security cooperation, with both sides reviewing progress under existing bilateral dialogue mechanisms. Specific areas of cooperation discussed included combating transnational crimes such as terrorism, insurgency, narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, human trafficking, wildlife trafficking, cybercrime, and other forms of organized crime. The parties agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and operational coordination while undertaking capacity-building initiatives to address shared security challenges effectively.
Both sides reviewed the current security situation along the India-Myanmar border and reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and security in the border region. Myanmar provided assurance that its territory would not be permitted to be used against India's security interests. The meeting also highlighted the importance of completing the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway.
