Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines, on September 13, 2026, in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit. The Prime Minister welcomed the Philippines' participation in the BRICS Summit in its capacity as current ASEAN chair. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral cooperation across all areas and agreed to further deepen and expand collaboration specifically in the fields of defence and security, trade and investment, space, railway infrastructure, fintech, education, tourism, science and technology, innovation, and people-to-people ties. They committed to advancing bilateral relations under the framework of the Strategic Partnership established between the two countries in August 2025 during President Marcos's State Visit to India. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the Philippines' decision to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation across all areas of the Strategic Partnership.
