Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani inaugurated two modernized Jan Seva Connect post offices in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in India Post's digital transformation journey. The Kothapeta Sub-Post Office was modernized at a cost of ₹51.81 lakh with design inspiration from the 1975 Kuchipudi commemorative postage stamp, while the Chandramouli Nagar Sub-Post Office was renovated at ₹64.13 lakh with architectural elements inspired by Tirumala's Ananda Nilayam tower.
The government has launched a ₹5,785 crore technology modernization program under IT 2.0 and Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0, integrating Artificial Intelligence, cloud-based platforms, and real-time data across India's network of 1.65 lakh post offices. Nearly 90% of these post offices are located in rural India, enabling faster service delivery, real-time tracking, and improved operational efficiency. India Post has adopted corporate-style governance with new leadership positions including Chief Technology Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and Vice CTO, implementing monthly performance reviews and accountability frameworks.
Operational reforms include revised pricing, bulk discounts, Buy Now Pay Later facilities, special packaging solutions, geotagged deliveries, SMS tracking, OTP-based delivery confirmation, and 24-to-48-hour delivery standards. Strategic partnerships with ONDC, GeM, Amazon, Flipkart, Patanjali, and DHL have expanded India's e-commerce ecosystem. Post offices now offer integrated services including UPI payments, Aadhaar enrolment and updation, Passport Seva facilities, India Post Payments Bank doorstep banking, Postal Life Insurance, Rural Postal Life Insurance, and government savings schemes. India Post currently manages over 3.8 crore Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana accounts, with more than 60% of transactions conducted digitally.
Financial performance shows remarkable improvement with India Post recording its highest-ever first-quarter revenue of ₹4,009 crore in Q1 FY 2026–27, representing 22% year-on-year growth. Zero-transaction accounts declined by over 90%, while the Effective Capability Ratio improved from 41% to 47%. The Andhra Pradesh Postal Circle emerged as the nation's best performer, achieving 102% of its quarterly business target with ₹233.7 crore revenue, ranking first in Mail Operations, achieving 140% growth in parcel business, and generating over ₹50 crore under the 'Jayaho Bheema Sankalp' insurance campaign. Nearly 33% of beneficiary payments under Andhra Pradesh Government welfare schemes (Talliki Vandanam, Deepam, NTR Rythu Bharosa, NTR Nagar) are delivered through the postal network.
The transformation emphasizes frontline workforce development through GDS Sammelans, structured training programs, sales orientation, digital capacity building, and performance-linked accountability for Gramin Dak Sevaks and postmen, who are described as the backbone of India Post's rural outreach and financial inclusion efforts.
