India has achieved a significant milestone of recording over 5 lakh organ donation pledges, reflecting growing public awareness and collective commitment towards organ and tissue donation. The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) facilitated this achievement through its Aadhaar-based registration portal notto.abdm.gov.in, which has streamlined the pledge registration process making it more accessible, secure and transparent.
Dr. Anil Kumar, Director of NOTTO, expressed gratitude to citizens across the country and acknowledged contributions from governmental and non-governmental organizations, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, media organizations, and state governments. The organ donation movement received renewed impetus from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat addresses, where he highlighted the transformative impact of organ donation and urged citizen participation.
The Government of India remains committed to bridging the gap between organ demand and availability through sustained awareness generation, enhanced institutional capacities, and strengthened transplantation systems, ensuring practices remain ethical, equitable, transparent and patient-centric.
