India's renewable energy sector has achieved remarkable growth with installed capacity increasing nearly fourfold from 76.38 GW in 2014 to 288.58 GW as of June 30, 2026. The capacity breakdown shows solar power dominating with 162.15 GW, followed by wind power at 57.44 GW, hydro power at 57.24 GW, and bio power at 11.75 GW.
The total non-fossil fuel electricity capacity in the country has reached 297.36 GW, which includes the 288.58 GW renewable energy capacity plus 8.78 GW of nuclear power capacity. This represents significant progress in India's energy transition away from fossil fuels.
Financially, the renewable energy sector has attracted substantial investment since FY2014, with Foreign Direct Investment totaling USD 45.72 billion. Additionally, domestic financial institutions including 12 public sector banks, IREDA, PFC, REC, IIFCL, NaBFID, and SIDBI have deployed Rs. 12.32 lakh crore (approximately USD 147.8 billion) toward renewable energy projects during this period.
