The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 33rd edition of Energy Statistics India 2026, which includes significant methodological improvements and updated energy data for policy planning. The report introduces new statistics on credit flow to the energy sector, international energy scenarios, and international marine and aviation bunker data, while also aligning end-use consuming sectors of all energy commodities with international standards and addressing data gaps on industry-wise consumption of coal and electricity.
India's Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES) for 2024-25 was estimated at 39,055 Petajoules, showing an increase from 37,936 Petajoules in the previous year 2023-24. Simultaneously, the country's Total Renewable Energy Potential demonstrated substantial growth, reaching 4,704,043 MW as of March 31, 2025, compared to 2,109,655 MW as of March 31, 2024, representing a significant expansion of renewable energy capacity.
The Energy Statistics India 2026 publication is widely disseminated among users and all line-energy ministries for policy formulation and infrastructure planning purposes. It is also shared with all States and Union Territories to facilitate suitable policy interventions and is available in the public domain on the Ministry's website for research and analysis by other stakeholders and users.
