As of January 2026, India's installed power generation capacity reached 520.51 GW, with 296.388 GW added since April 2014, transforming the country from power deficit to sufficient.
The government has implemented measures to bridge peak demand gaps, including hydro scheduling, ensuring coal supply, and expanding the national grid and power markets.
Future capacity additions include 97,000 MW thermal, 12,723.5 MW hydro, 6,600 MW nuclear, and 157,800 MW renewable, alongside significant energy storage projects.
