Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Yesso Naik led the Indian delegation to the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026 held at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre from October 26-28, 2026. The event coincided with the 25th year of Singapore's Energy Market Authority and was expanded into a two-day format featuring the Singapore-IEA Forum, Singapore-IRENA Forum, and IAEA at SIEW.

Minister Naik delivered a keynote address on Day 1 and opening remarks on Day 2, revealing that India's installed electricity capacity reached 558.9 GW as of September 30, 2026, with 308 GW (55%) coming from non-fossil sources. India achieved 50% non-fossil installed capacity in June 2025, five years ahead of its 2030 NDC target, and is now working toward 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030. Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, approximately 53 lakh rooftop solar systems have been installed, benefiting about 63 lakh households. The PM-KUSUM scheme has resulted in nearly 12 lakh standalone solar pump installations and over 17 lakh grid-connected agricultural pumps solarized, adding about 16.7 GW of decentralized renewable energy capacity and benefiting around 30 lakh farmers.

On the sidelines of SIEW 2026, Minister Naik held bilateral meetings with several countries and organizations. With Singapore's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Energy and Trade and Industry Ms. Gan Siow Huang, discussions focused on energy cooperation under the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including proposed cross-border electricity interconnection. Naik invited long-term Singaporean investment in transmission, pumped storage, battery storage, and renewable energy in India, with additional discussions on green hydrogen and ammonia, energy efficiency, and partnerships between Indian power equipment manufacturers and Singapore's utilities.

With Bhutan's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Lyonpo Sonam Tashi, the ministers reviewed progress on the 1200 MW Punatsangchhu-I Hydroelectric Project, where dam works have progressed steadily since concreting resumed in April 2026, and noted satisfactory operations of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II project. They also discussed other projects under discussion with Indian entities and cross-border transmission planning up to 2040.

With IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera, discussions covered deeper cooperation under the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between MNRE and IRENA in January 2022, including affordable finance for renewable energy in developing economies, long-term energy planning, green hydrogen, and capacity building in the ASEAN region. With IEA Executive Director Dr. Fatih Birol, Naik welcomed the forthcoming launch of IEA's India Renewable Energy Market Report 2026 at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and the India Critical Minerals Report at India Mining Week.

On the third day, Minister Naik visited Sembcorp's 326 MWh Battery Energy Storage System Plant at Jurong Island, which comprises 800 large-scale lithium-ion phosphate batteries and represents the largest utility-scale battery energy storage system in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The tour concluded with a visit to Keppel's 800 TPD (tons per day) 22 MW Waste to Energy Plant in Tuas Region. The visit provided an opportunity to share India's progress in power and renewable energy sectors and advance energy partnerships with Singapore and other partner countries and agencies.
