India's Space Launch Programme Achievements (2023-2026)
From July 2023 to June 2026, India's space programme achieved significant milestones with 12 successful launch vehicle missions, 11 national satellites launched, and 9 satellites deployed for international customers. The period saw India become the first country to successfully soft-land near the Moon's south pole through the Chandrayaan-3 Mission and launch its first solar observatory mission, Aditya-L1, on PSLV. India achieved its 100th launch from Sriharikota spaceport and became the fourth country to demonstrate docking/undocking in space through the SPADEX mission.
Infrastructure Development and Expansion
The Department of Space has developed and operationalized four launch vehicles: PSLV, GSLV, GSLV MkIII, and SSLV, which are used for earth observation, communication, navigation, space science, exploration, and commercial launch services. The government has approved establishing a Third Launch Pad at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, for Next Generation Launch vehicles and as a standby for the Second Launch Pad. Additionally, the SSLV Launch Complex in Kulasekarapattinam, Tamil Nadu is being developed as India's second rocket launch site to cater to SSLV launches and private space start-ups.
Private Sector Participation and Policy Reforms
To strengthen launch infrastructure and support Non-Government Entities (NGEs), the government has permitted NGEs to establish temporary test facilities within ISRO premises, providing access to critical infrastructure that reduces development time and costs. IN-SPACe has introduced policy reforms and incentive schemes including financial support for startups and MSMEs, streamlined authorization processes, skill development programmes, technology commercialization, and promotion of space manufacturing clusters.
Financial Performance and Revenue Generation
NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) generated substantial revenue through launch services over the past three years: ₹44,743.13 lakhs in 2024-25, ₹21,821.10 lakhs in 2023-24, and ₹1,16,613.16 lakhs in 2022-23, as per audited financials.
Future Technology Development
ISRO is developing advanced technologies to expand India's global leadership, including a 200t thrust semi-cryogenic engine, semi-cryogenic booster stage for LVM3, booster stage recovery through Vertical Take-off & Vertical landing technology, high thrust LOX-Methane engine, partially reusable Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) with LOX-Methane propulsion, Winged Body Orbital Re-entry Vehicle for Reusable Launch Vehicle, and air-breathing propulsion technology with a technology demonstrator vehicle.
Strategic Vision and Economic Targets
IN-SPACe has developed a strategic roadmap to expand India's share in the global space economy, targeting USD 44 billion by 2033. This objective focuses on strengthening infrastructure, enhancing private sector participation, fostering innovation, promoting manufacturing, and creating a globally competitive space ecosystem.
