India participated in the Russian-Indian Roundtable Meeting on Snow Leopard Study and Conservation held on August 26, 2026, at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. The meeting was organized within the framework of the Partnership Agreement between the Interregional Association 'Irbis' and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), which was signed in December 2025 with the objective of strengthening international cooperation in snow leopard research and conservation.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) delegation highlighted India's progress in snow leopard conservation through science-based initiatives. Officials from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) elaborated on specific advances in snow leopard population estimation, radio telemetry, and genetic analysis, emphasizing the growing role of scientific tools in strengthening conservation efforts.
The meeting brought together representatives from multiple Russian institutions including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow Zoo, and Rosprirodnadzor, along with leading experts in snow leopard research and conservation. The Indian delegation participated in both the Roundtable and thematic discussions focused on advancing collaborative approaches for conservation and scientific study of the species.
The Roundtable served as an important platform for India and international partners to exchange knowledge and experiences, specifically aimed at strengthening cooperation in snow leopard research, monitoring, and conservation efforts.
