India Telecom Subscription Data for July 2026
The Ministry of Communications released comprehensive telecom subscription data for July 2026, showing continued growth across all segments of India's telecommunications market. The total telephone subscriber base reached 1,354.28 million, comprising 1,306.27 million wireless subscribers and 48.01 million wireline subscribers. The market added 6.20 million net new subscribers during July 2026, with wireless contributing 6.02 million additions and wireline adding 0.19 million.
Broadband and Connectivity Metrics
Broadband subscribers with M2M cellular mobile connections reached 1,094.48 million, with wireless broadband accounting for 1,046.34 million and wireline broadband at 48.14 million. Excluding M2M connections, broadband subscribers stood at 1,005.72 million. The overall tele-density with M2M cellular mobile connections reached 94.68%, while without M2M connections it stood at 85.06%.
Urban-Rural Distribution
Urban telephone subscribers totaled 796.68 million (58.83% share) with net additions of 4.62 million in July 2026 and monthly growth rate of 0.58%. Urban tele-density reached 154.12%. Rural telephone subscribers reached 557.59 million (41.17% share) with net additions of 1.58 million and monthly growth rate of 0.28%. Rural tele-density stood at 61.05%. The urban wireline subscriber share was significantly higher at 89.19% compared to rural's 10.81%.
Growth Rates and Additional Metrics
Monthly growth rates showed wireless growing at 0.46%, wireline at 0.39%, and overall at 0.46%. The active wireless subscriber base (based on peak VLR) reached 1,204.01 million. Mobile Number Portability activity remained significant with 15.98 million requests submitted during July 2026. The data was compiled based on information provided by Telecom Service Providers to TRAI, using population projections from the 2011-2036 Technical Group report.
