Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Education and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated the 8th edition of 'Windergy India 2026' in Chennai on October 8, 2026. The premier global wind energy conference is being held from October 7–9, 2026, and was attended by Thiru C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, Minister for Energy Resources and Law of Tamil Nadu, along with senior officials from the Government of India, several State Governments, wind energy associations, and industry leaders.
Minister Joshi announced that India's wind energy sector achieved its highest-ever annual installation of 6.05 GW in FY2026 and expressed confidence that annual installations would surpass this record in FY2027. He confirmed that India's total installed wind power capacity reached 59.20 GW as of September 30, 2026, putting the country firmly on track to achieve its national ambition of 100 GW of installed wind energy capacity by 2030. The minister emphasized that with a strong project pipeline and supportive policy framework, India is well-positioned to build momentum and achieve the scale required for the next phase of wind energy growth.
The Windergy India 2026 event brought together the global wind energy ecosystem with participation from approximately 400 exhibitors representing more than 20 countries, 500 delegates, and dedicated country pavilions from Denmark, Germany, and Spain. Several key international and domestic agreements were announced, including the IWTMA-BWE Global MoU, the IWTMA-PTB LoI, and the IWTMA-OECD collaboration, all aimed at driving technological advancement in the Indian wind sector.
Tamil Nadu Energy Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar highlighted the state's pivotal role in wind energy development and outlined proactive steps including the state repowering policy. Representatives from various State Governments were felicitated for their exceptional leadership in advancing wind energy development through land facilitation, timely clearances, and resolution of Right-of-Way issues. Two reports were released during the inaugural ceremony: "Energy Transition in Tamil Nadu" and "Reimagining Contractual Mechanism for Indian Wind Sector".
