The Indian Air Force (IAF) introduced a new scheme for induction into the Technical Branch (Officers Cadre)
Eligible candidates can apply based on their Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores
Candidates with valid GATE scores will be eligible for direct shortlisting for testing at Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs)
Selection will be based on merit
This scheme exempts candidates from preliminary written examinations such as Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)
The GATE Score scheme applies exclusively for induction into the Technical Branch
AFCAT will continue as the standard admission test for induction into all branches of IAF, including Technical Branch
Entry-level educational qualifications remain consistent with existing induction criteria for Technical Branch via AFCAT
Acceptable GATE subjects are formally promulgated in AFCAT Notification 02/2026
