Indian Navy's Swavlamban 2026 Seminar on Indigenous Defence Innovation

The Indian Navy will host the fifth edition of its flagship Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, Swavlamban 2026, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on October 26-27, 2026. The event operates under the theme 'Strength & Power through Innovation and Indigenisation' and serves as a national platform connecting the Indian Navy's operational requirements with the technological capabilities of Indian industry and academia.

The seminar brings together multiple stakeholders including the Armed Forces, industry representatives, Start-ups, MSMEs, academia, and investors to advance indigenous technological innovation and strengthen India's defence self-reliance. Since its inception in 2022, Swavlamban has evolved into a significant initiative aimed at accelerating the journey from indigenous innovation to deployable operational capabilities, thereby strengthening maritime preparedness and Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance).

Event Components and Focus Areas

A thematic exhibition will showcase indigenous innovations across several critical domains including Maritime Surveillance, Counter UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems), Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies, NBCD (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defence) and Safety, and Efficiency Enhancers. The exhibition will also feature success stories demonstrating the progression of products from ideation toward fruition.

The seminar will feature detailed deliberations on future and emerging technologies, with specific focus on quantum technologies, Artificial Intelligence, autonomous systems, and hypersonic technologies. These discussions will emphasize their potential applications in future warfare and naval operations. Additional dedicated sessions will address strengthening self-reliance and the iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) ecosystem, building resilient domestic supply chains, promoting academic entrepreneurship, and enabling Start-ups to scale promising indigenous technologies.

The event will include engagements with investors and venture capitalists to explore funding, scaling, and commercialisation pathways for promising defence enterprises. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will grace the plenary session as Chief Guest on October 26, 2026, where he will felicitate industry partners in recognition of their contributions to defence innovation and indigenisation. The occasion will witness the release of two key documents: the Swavlamban 5.0 document and the Compendium on Technology Imperatives, which will serve as important references for focused engagement on the Indian Navy's technological priorities, operational requirements, and opportunities for indigenous development.

The event is being organized by the Indian Navy in collaboration with the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), representing a coordinated effort between military, innovation, and industry stakeholders.
