The Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, continued its participation in the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania on October 7, 2026. Shri Harivansh attended the general debate on the theme "Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all" and urged parliamentarians to strengthen transparency, uphold accountability, and nurture public trust.

Multiple Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members participated in various workshops and panel discussions. Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal attended a mental health workshop addressing digital overload and economic pressure. Smt. Aparajita Sarangi participated in a UN reform discussion, while Smt. Bijuli Kalita Medhi engaged in science/technology and sustainable development committees focusing on mountain and ocean ecosystem conservation. Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat discussed international humanitarian law and ethical AI for child rights, and Dr. Lata Wankhede participated in a workshop on delivering healthy food in a changing climate. Dr. Sasmit Patra contributed to discussions on maritime security and protecting critical infrastructure.

The delegation held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, discussing issues of mutual interest. Shri Harivansh also met outgoing IPU President Tulia Ackson, appreciating her efforts to make IPU working inclusive and vibrant. The Secretary-General of Rajya Sabha met newly elected IPU Secretary General Ms. Anda Filip, the first woman to hold this position in IPU's 137-year history, conveying India's full support for IPU's democracy and peace ideals.

The delegation participated in voting for an emergency agenda item, resulting in the adoption of "Urgent parliamentary action to address climate-related disasters and strengthen resilience in the Himalayan region and other vulnerable regions," proposed by Nepal and supported by India.
