Indian Private Space Sector Development
According to data from the DPIIT Start-up India Portal, India has approximately 440 registered space technology startups, indicating significant private sector participation in the space industry. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) has granted 113 authorizations to 52 Non-Government Entities (NGEs) to conduct various space activities, with 18 of these authorized entities being startups.
The authorized startups include Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd, Akshath Aerospace Private Limited, Azista BST, Bellatrix Aerospace Pvt Ltd, Cosmoserv Space India Private Limited, Dhruva Space Private Limited, Digantara Research and Technologies Pvt. Ltd, GalaxEye Space Solutions Private Limited, HEX20Labs India Pvt Ltd., Inorbit Space Telecommunications Private Limited, Manastu Space Technologies Private Limited, NSpace Tech India Private Limited, OrbitAID Aerospace Private Limited, PierSight Space Private Limited, Pixxel Space India Private Limited, Skyroot Aerospace Private Limited, Space Kidz India, and TakeMe2Space Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Infrastructure Access and Launch Projections
Applications for usage and access to ISRO infrastructure, including the launch pads at ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, are processed through IN-SPACe's Digital Platform following a standard SOP. The readiness aspects of these applications are reviewed by an Expert Committee of IN-SPACe.
Regarding launch projections, Indian private companies plan to launch 2 commercial rockets in FY 2026-27. For FY 2027-28, the launch manifest is yet to be approved by IN-SPACe, but it is expected that more than 6 launches may be undertaken by Indian private companies.
