Indian Railways has approved the operational merger of two express services to enhance passenger connectivity and capacity utilization. The 14109/14110 Chitrakutdham Karwi-Kanpur Central Express and 14123/14124 Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Kanpur Central Express will be combined into a single service numbered 14123/14124 Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh-Chitrakutdham Karwi Express.
The merger significantly increases passenger carrying capacity by doubling the coach composition from 12 to 24 coaches, addressing overcrowding issues particularly on the Kanpur-Pratapgarh section. This enhancement provides additional seating capacity at affordable pricing while optimizing train operating resources.
The new merged service establishes direct rail connectivity between Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh and Chitrakutdham Karwi, eliminating the need for passengers to change trains at Kanpur Central. The route strengthens connectivity between important religious destinations including Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, and the Lucknow region, benefiting pilgrimage, tourism, education, employment, healthcare, business, and administrative travel.
The service connects 28 stations across Uttar Pradesh: Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh, Chilbila, Maa Chandrika Devi Dham Antu, Amethi, Gauriganj, Kashimpur, Jais, Fursatganj, Rae Bareli, Harchandpur, Bachhrawan, Nigohan, Lucknow, Manak Nagar, Unnao, Kanpur Central, Bhimsen, Kathara Road, Patara, Ghatampur, Hamirpur Road, Yamuna South Bank, Bharwa Sumerpur, Ragaul, Banda, Atarra, and Chitrakutdham Karwi. This creates a seamless rail corridor connecting the Bundelkhand and Awadh regions, with direct connectivity from Chitrakoot to Lucknow, the state capital, and Pratapgarh.
