The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has reopened the registration window for IndiaSkills Competition 2026–27 until 19 October 2026 in response to numerous requests from institutions and aspiring participants. This decision follows renewed interest in skill competitions after Team India's exceptional performance at the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026, where the contingent secured 10th position globally by winning six Silver Medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence.
The momentum was further strengthened when Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Team India's WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competitors at his residence on 9 October 2026, celebrating the achievements of India's skilled youth and emphasizing the importance of vocational excellence in national development. Following this interaction, the Ministry received multiple requests to reopen registrations.
IndiaSkills 2026–27 has already received approximately 4.0 lakh registrations, reflecting significant interest among young people to demonstrate their capabilities against nationally and internationally benchmarked standards. Eligible aspirants who missed the initial registration can now complete their applications on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) platform by the extended deadline.
Organized under MSDE with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as implementation partner, the competition covers 63 industry-relevant skill categories across manufacturing, engineering, construction, digital technologies, creative industries, and services. The competition provides a structured pathway through district/zonal, state, regional, and national levels, enabling talented youth to demonstrate their skills, receive expert guidance, and progress toward opportunities to represent India at international skill competitions.
The Ministry has encouraged State Governments, UT administrations, Industrial Training Institutes, Polytechnics, Colleges, Skill Training Institutions, and industry partners to disseminate information about the reopened registration window. Team India's performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 marked an improvement from its 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, with India's largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors participating across 63 skills.
