Infosys Founder N.R. Narayana Murthy Addresses JGU University Day on Jobs, Ethics, and Innovation

On Thursday, 1 October 2026, Padma Vibhushan N.R. Narayana Murthy, Founder of Infosys Ltd, delivered the chief‑guest address at the 17th Anniversary and University Day of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU). His speech, titled “Ethical Leadership, Transformative Growth & Technology – The Infosys Story & the Future of India,” stressed that "India can create jobs through ideas and enterprise" as the sole pathway to becoming a developed nation.

Murthy underscored that personal and professional success must be rooted in cultural values—hard work, honesty, respect, and integrity—stating that a clear conscience is "the softest pillow" and that setting ethical benchmarks makes doing the right thing simple. He recounted his own early failures, noting that his first venture failed before he founded Infosys, and described failure as "a series of steps towards success" that, when learned from, leads to eventual achievement.

The university’s leadership echoed similar themes. Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice‑Chancellor, highlighted JGU’s commitment to values, inter‑generational equity, and sustainable development. Prof. Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar, linked the parallel founding stories of Infosys and JGU, emphasizing that both institutions are built on long‑term purpose, integrity, and excellence. Dean R. Sudarshan praised Murthy’s nation‑building role and philanthropic initiatives that preserve and promote knowledge. Former Additional Chief Secretary K. Jairaj, IAS, congratulated JGU and reiterated Infosys’s technological, entrepreneurial, and philanthropic milestones under Murthy’s leadership.

During the event, JGU released its Research Report 2026. Prof. (Dr.) Arpita Gupta, Dean of Research, reported that the university’s research ecosystem has produced 11,000 research articles, with nearly 800 student contributions indexed in Scopus, influencing policy domains such as artificial intelligence, smart cities, climate change, entrepreneurship, health, gender, and micro‑credit.

The concluding remarks were delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Hindol Sengupta, Executive Dean, Jindal School of International Affairs. The press release notes that the content is provided under an arrangement with NRDPL and that PTI assumes no editorial responsibility.
