Indian Naval Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini concluded its port call at New York, USA on July 8, 2026, as part of the ongoing Lokayan 2026 transoceanic expedition. The indigenously built three-masted barque represented India at the International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations commemorating the 250th anniversary of US independence. A major highlight was the ship's participation in the Parade of Sail, sailing past the Statue of Liberty and along the Hudson River while flying the Indian National Flag alongside international tall ships and naval vessels.
During its stay at Brooklyn, INS Sudarshini served as a floating ambassador welcoming over 1,000 visitors including Indian diaspora members, local residents, and maritime enthusiasts. The ship provided insights into the Indian Navy's sail training traditions and India's maritime heritage. Distinguished visitors included Consul General of India in New York Shri Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the UN Shri Parvathaneni Harish, who interacted with the crew and appreciated the ship's role in promoting maritime legacy and strengthening bilateral ties.
The visit included a State Dinner hosted on board that brought together senior diplomats, military officials, and distinguished guests to reinforce the growing India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Following successful completion of all engagements, INS Sudarshini departed New York for Boston to participate in the forthcoming Sail Boston 2026 celebrations, continuing to carry the Indian Navy's message of friendship, maritime cooperation, and goodwill across the oceans as part of its 10-month transoceanic deployment.
