Seminar Overview
On 30 June 2026, the Insurance Institute of India (III) held a seminar in Mumbai, Maharashtra, titled “Reimagining Insurance in a Rapidly Transforming Risk Landscape.” The event formed part of III’s 71st Foundation Day celebrations and was released to the press on 3 July 2026.
Opening Addresses
The Welcome Address was delivered by Shri P. Jaipuria, Secretary General of III, who underscored the Institute’s commitment to strengthening professional capabilities and fostering collaborative engagement among stakeholders. The Inaugural Session featured three senior leaders: Shri Ratnakar Patnaik, Deputy Chairman, BOE, III and Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC); Mrs. Girija Subramanian, President of III and Chairman & Managing Director of The New India Assurance Co. Ltd.; and the Chief Guest, Shri R. Doraiswamy, CEO & MD of LIC. They emphasized resilience, governance, sustainable growth, innovation, customer‑centric strategies, and institutional strengthening as essential to address emerging risks.
Thematic Tracks
Fireside Chat – “Building Sustainable Growth with Customer Trust and Cost Discipline”
The Fireside Chat was led by Shri Rakesh Jain, CEO of IndusInd General Insurance, and moderated by Shri Shiv Kumar Singh, Faculty (General), College of Insurance. The discussion centered on transparency, service delivery, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
CDO Panel – “Strengthening Suitability, Disclosure, Sales Governance and Customer Outcomes”
The panel comprised:
- Smt. Anu Chaudhuri‑Ghosh, Head Marketing and Business Administration, Star Union Dai‑Ichi Life Insurance
- Shri Atul Mehta, CDO – Institutional Business, Bajaj General Insurance
- Shri Atul Srivastava, Chief Product and Distribution Officer, Ageas Federal Life Insurance
- Shri Gaurav Saxena, Chief Distribution Officer – Bancassurance, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance
- Shri Kamal Bharadwaj, Chief Distribution Officer – Corporate Solutions, TATA AIA Life Insurance
The panel, moderated by Dr Ramesh Kumar Satuluri, Faculty (Research & Life), College of Insurance, addressed mis‑selling concerns and stressed stronger governance, suitability, disclosure, and alignment with customer needs.
Key Topics Discussed
Speakers highlighted the influence of geopolitical tensions, macroeconomic volatility, climate change, and rapid technological advancements on the contemporary risk landscape. They called for a fundamental rethinking of insurance products, distribution, and management practices, with a focus on resilience, customer‑centricity, sustainability, digital transformation, climate resilience, and cyber‑risk management.
Participation and Closing
The seminar attracted insurance professionals, customer‑service managers, sales managers, actuaries, and risk managers. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Shri Kedar Sant, Secretary of III, followed by a second Vote of Thanks by Shri Manish Raikar, Secretary of III, acknowledging all speakers, panelists, and participants.
