The award is funded by an initial ₹10 lakh endowment from Mrs. Sushila Gangawane, with a further ₹90 lakh pledge, totaling ₹1 crore.
IPS President‑Elect Prof. Rajendra M. Gade highlighted the award’s aim to promote farmer‑centric research and recognize outstanding young agricultural scientists.
Senior IPS leaders and Mumbai University officials supported the initiative, underscoring its focus on plant pathology, sustainable agriculture, and mentorship.
