Iran, via ambassador Mohammad Amin‑Nejad, announced talks with Oman to set up a permanent toll for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposed fee would fund navigation management, security services, pollution prevention, and be “clear, transparent, reasonable and logical,” per the ambassador.
Iran has no toll system, says strait lies in its waters and it is not a party to 1982 Montego Bay Convention.
Recent military actions have reduced traffic and raised insurance costs, but vessels continue to use the strait; Oman has not responded yet.
