Italy plans to send up to four naval vessels—including two minesweepers, an escort and a logistics ship—to clear the Strait of Hormuz.
The deployment, announced by Navy Chief Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, follows a Paris meeting of European leaders on a multinational shipping‑protection mission.
About one‑fifth of global oil and LNG passes through the strait, which was largely closed during the U.S.–Israel war against Iran.
Italy’s eight minesweepers will provide two for the mission, departing La Spezia and taking roughly four weeks to reach the area.
