Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri C. R. Paatil chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation on September 10, 2026, to assess the overall progress of projects, programmes, schemes and initiatives undertaken by the Department and its various wings and organizations. During the meeting, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and State Projects (SPR) gave detailed presentations on their ongoing projects and activities.
The discussions focused on the status of ongoing projects, implementation-related challenges, quality of works, and measures required to improve their pace and effectiveness. The Union Minister emphasized the need for expeditious implementation and directed that bottlenecks affecting project progress be identified and resolved speedily to ensure timely completion. He highlighted that timely completion would avoid cost escalations and provide desired benefits to the public promptly.
The Minister emphasized streamlining existing guidelines for formulating Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to make them more effective for ground-level project implementation. He stressed the use of latest technology for hydrological modernization, DPR preparation, flood forecasting, and groundwater management. The review also highlighted the importance of stronger coordination between the Centre and States, calling for closer engagement to facilitate resolution of pending issues and ensure smooth project implementation.
Senior officers and heads of concerned wings and organizations were called upon to ensure effective follow-up on decisions taken during the review and maintain close monitoring of implementation with a focus on achieving desired outcomes within stipulated timelines.
