Historic First Mineral Auction in Jammu & Kashmir
The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has successfully conducted the first-ever mineral block auctions in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, marking a historic milestone in the region's mineral development. This initiative represents an important step toward unlocking Jammu & Kashmir's mineral potential and initiating organized mineral development following the abrogation of Article 370.
Block Details and Specifications
Two limestone blocks were auctioned through the Central Government's transparent and competitive mineral auction process. The Koot-Kapran Limestone Block is located in Koot and Kapran villages of Dooru Tehsil in Anantnag district, covering 22.43 hectares with estimated limestone resources of 4.75 million tonnes. This block has been explored up to the G-4 stage, providing scope for further detailed exploration. The Wantrag Limestone Block, also in Anantnag, covers 5.36 hectares with estimated limestone resources of 10.853 million tonnes. This block has been explored up to the G-3 stage, including 159 metres of drilling, providing a solid geological basis for future development.
