Japan’s Top Banks Gain Anthropic Mythos AI

Japan’s three largest banks—MUFG, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Mizuho—will receive access to Anthropic’s Claude Mythos AI model by end‑May 2026.
Access was disclosed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during meetings with Japanese officials, including Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Mythos, previously limited to about 50 global entities, marks the first AI model grant to Japanese organizations, boosting cybersecurity capabilities.
Japanese government has urged stronger AI‑related security measures, aligning with the banks’ new AI capabilities.
