The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced that KJP21, a 32-month-old Indian-born female cheetah, gave birth to five healthy cubs at Kuno National Park on October 5, 2026. This development increases India's total cheetah population to 60 individuals, with 41 of them being Indian-born. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav described this as a historic milestone for Project Cheetah, noting that KJP21 is the third Indian-born female cheetah to give birth after Mukhi and KGP12. The birth also marks the beginning of the Botswanan lineage in India as the cubs' father is a Botswanan male cheetah, adding new genetic diversity to the population. Minister Yadav congratulated the veterinarians, field staff, and managers associated with Project Cheetah for their dedication in achieving this conservation success.
