The Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice organized a Tree Plantation Drive on October 1, 2026 at the India International Arbitration Centre (IIAC) in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. The event was conducted as part of the Special Campaign 6 and Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 initiatives under the theme "Ek ped Maa ke naam" on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal led the plantation drive, accompanied by Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of Legislative Department and Department of Legal Affairs and Chairperson of IIAC, along with senior officers and officials from the Department and IIAC. Participants planted saplings on the IIAC campus during the event.
Minister Meghwal emphasized that cleanliness extends beyond physical spaces to include "Mann ki Swachhta" (cleanliness of mind), drawing parallels to Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran experience in 1917 where sanitation and hygiene efforts became part of a mass movement. He described Swachhata Hi Seva as a people's movement requiring individual responsibility and connected the values of cleanliness, discipline, and service to Gandhi's vision for India.
Dr. Rajiv Mani highlighted the dual dimensions of cleanliness—physical surroundings and mental purity—stressing that institutions have a responsibility to adopt sustainable practices and support the Swachh Bharat Mission objectives. He affirmed IIAC's commitment to becoming a global, efficient, and credible arbitration institution. Shri Navin Kumar Singh, CEO of IIAC, reaffirmed the center's dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. The event concluded with a pledge to sustain cleanliness initiatives and promote a greener environment.
