The Ministry of Electronics & IT announced the integration of Maharashtra's Mahasarathi (Family ID) with the DigiLocker platform, providing approximately 14 crore residents of Maharashtra with instant digital access to their household identification credentials. This integration enables citizens to fetch and share their Family ID digitally for verification purposes or to avail government services, eliminating the need for physical documents.
The integration operates bidirectionally, allowing citizens to both retrieve existing Mahasarathi Family IDs into their DigiLocker accounts and enroll for new Family IDs digitally through the app. The process involves four simple steps: signing into DigiLocker via app or website, navigating to "Issued Documents" or searching for "Mahasarathi/Family ID Maharashtra," entering required details with consent, and instantly saving the document to the DigiLocker account.
Mahasarathi serves as Maharashtra's foundational household identifier, crucial for delivering government services and unlocking welfare schemes and benefits. The digital credential is legally valid and issued by the source authority, enabling instant verification and seamless sharing when required. The integration enhances ease of accessing citizen-centric services and government schemes through the Aaple Sarkar platform, allowing residents to manage household-related information efficiently.
This move strengthens Maharashtra's paperless, citizen-friendly governance framework and supports the broader Digital India vision by contributing to a more efficient, transparent, and digitally empowered governance ecosystem through the expansion of DigiLocker's trusted digital credentials network.
