Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla addressed the foundation-laying ceremony of the Maheshwari Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Jaipur on August 22, 2026. He congratulated the Maheshwari Samaj for embarking on this new chapter in their enduring journey of service to humanity, recognizing their glorious legacy of service, sacrifice, dedication, and social responsibility that has illuminated society and inspired generations.
Birla highlighted the community's historic contributions, noting that as early as 1926 during British rule, farsighted members recognized education as the cornerstone of an enlightened society and established schools and institutions despite limited resources and formidable challenges. The community also made meaningful contributions to India's freedom movement and carried forward the spirit of sacrifice and patriotism associated with revered Bhamashah, while establishing educational facilities, dharamshalas for travelers, hospitals, dispensaries, community centers, hostels, and scholarship programs.
The Speaker emphasized that nation-building is a collective endeavor requiring both government and societal participation, noting that citizens, voluntary organizations, and social institutions have equally important roles through hard work, dedication, professional skills, knowledge, and selfless service beyond financial contributions. He stressed that quality medical education, research, innovation, and healthcare have acquired greater significance, and the benefits of modern healthcare must reach every section of society, particularly those in remote villages and far-flung hamlets through affordable, accessible, high-quality medical treatment.
Birla expressed confidence that the institute should emerge as a model charitable research institution whose achievements could serve as a national example, extending beyond medical treatment to encompass excellence in medical and nursing education, advanced research, innovation, and developing new solutions for emerging healthcare needs. He stated that society guided by noble purpose never faces resource shortages, and wealth finds its highest purpose when utilized for societal welfare and upliftment.
