The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), under the Ministry of Ayush, inaugurated a five-day National Workshop on 'Patanjala Yoga Sutra: Vibhuti Pada (In the Light of Vyasa Bhashya)' on October 26, 2026. The workshop is scheduled to run from October 26 to 30, 2026, and aims to deepen participants' understanding of Vibhuti Pada through systematic study of the Patanjala Yoga Sutra and its traditional interpretation by Vyasa Bhashya.
Several experts participated in the inauguration and emphasized the relevance of the classical text. Prof. Krishna Kant Sharma, former Professor at Banaras Hindu University's Department of Vedic Philosophy, stressed the importance of integrating classical wisdom with practical learning and noted that MDNIY is committed to imparting practical knowledge alongside deeper understanding of the Yoga text. Dr. Jyoti Keswani, Director of MDNIY, highlighted the text's relevance in personal development, cultivation of discipline, and management of ego (Asmita), while noting that Vibhuti Pada presents profound concepts requiring philosophical inquiry and scientific exploration.
Md. Taiyab Alam, Communication and Documentation Officer at MDNIY, emphasized applying Yoga teachings in daily life rather than mere memorization of sutras. Dr. I. N. Acharya, Programme Officer at MDNIY, discussed the contemporary relevance of the text in understanding and regulating the human mind in today's complex information-rich world.
The workshop specifically focuses on Vibhuti Pada, the third chapter of Patanjala Yoga Sutra, which explores advanced dimensions of Yogic practice including Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (absorption), collectively known as Samyama. It also elaborates on various Siddhis (Yogic attainments), their implications, and the importance of discernment in spiritual progress. Dr. Indu Sharma, Assistant Professor of Yoga Education at MDNIY, is coordinating the workshop, which serves as an academic platform for examining the philosophical foundations of Patanjala Yoga and the relevance of classical Yogic teachings in understanding higher stages of Yogic discipline and consciousness.
