The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study highlighting the successful rehabilitation journey of Dev M (name changed), a 29-year-old self-employed man from the OBC community in Akola district, Maharashtra, through the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) program. The individual faced multiple family, financial, and social challenges due to addiction, which adversely affected his business performance and economic stability, while frequent family conflicts and social stigma created additional emotional stress.
On October 5, 2025, Dev received comprehensive support through Purogami Bhaiyyuprasad Samaj Kalyan Vikas Vyayam Prasark Sanstha, an IRCA facility, which provided free medical treatment, psychological therapy, family counselling, addiction-related medicines, free food during treatment, and regular follow-up services. The rehabilitation process included individual, group, and family counselling sessions that addressed personal challenges and addiction triggers, while introducing practical stress-management techniques such as deep-breathing exercises, maintaining daily activity diaries, and engaging in regular physical exercise.
The intervention contributed positively to Dev's overall well-being, helping him develop better emotional control, improve family relationships, and move toward a more stable life. The case demonstrates the value of accessible treatment, psychological support, family participation, and regular follow-up in addiction recovery, enabling beneficiaries to rebuild confidence and restore relationships. The beneficiary expressed that counselling and medical care helped him gain emotional control and improve family relationships toward a more stable life.
