The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study highlighting the successful recovery journey of Mr. Nathan (name changed), a 34-year-old MBA graduate and self-employed professional from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, who overcame substance dependence through structured de-addiction and rehabilitation services.
The intervention was conducted through Concern, a Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC), and included regular counselling sessions, medical treatment, spirituality-based support, and participation in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings. The structured follow-up sessions and continuous medical support helped the individual overcome relapse challenges and develop a stable routine.
Through sustained support and personal determination, Mr. Nathan regained control over his life and achieved both personal stability and professional recovery. He has successfully restarted his company and regained financial stability, enabling him to support his family. He continues to attend regular follow-up sessions and AA meetings, demonstrating ongoing commitment to his recovery journey.
The case study serves to demonstrate the ministry's perspective that timely intervention, continuous counselling, medical care, peer support, and structured follow-up can help individuals overcome addiction and return to productive livelihoods. The experience is presented as evidence of the importance of sustained rehabilitation support in promoting healthier, more stable, and self-reliant lives.
