The Ministry of Ayush is advancing Artificial Intelligence as the next frontier for Ayurveda and the wider Ayush sector, building on the digital foundation of Ayush Grid. The Ministry has been exploring AI across healthcare, research, education, information services, and investment facilitation, developing an ecosystem that includes both specialized AI applications and broader collaborations with national AI initiatives.
At the citizen-facing level, the Ministry has deployed six specialized AI chatbots: MAISP Chatbot for Ayush-related information accessibility, ARP Research Assistant (a GenAI-based assistant) for navigating Ayurveda literature, eLMS Chatbot for AI-based Student Life Cycle Management in education institutions, e-CHARAK Chatbot as a medicinal-plant trade assistant, Yoga Saarthi as a yoga recommendation AI chatbot, and Nivesh Saarthi as an AI assistant for investment in the Ayush sector.
The Ministry's AI initiatives gained international recognition at the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026, where the AI Impact Casebook on Health developed with the World Health Organization featured a dedicated snapshot titled "AI-driven Decision Support for Ayurveda: A Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Approach." This inclusion underscores the potential of Generative AI and RAG to strengthen evidence-based Ayurvedic knowledge.
The broader AI ecosystem is being advanced through participation in the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, focusing on developing AI-enabled solutions tailored to the Ayush sector. Key use cases include voice-based Electronic Health Records, disease-trend detection, and personalized treatment-support solutions aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery, clinical insights, and patient-centric care.
The Ministry has established significant collaborations with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), MeitY, exploring artificial intelligence, language technologies, digital health, and advanced computing. Through the Bhashini collaboration, Ayush Grid portals are now available in 22 scheduled languages of India, enabling wider participation across the country's linguistic diversity. Ministry artefacts are also available on AI Kosh to support wider AI research and dissemination.
The initiative follows the WHO, ITU, and WIPO's joint technical brief released on 11 July 2025, titled "Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine," which examined how AI can support traditional medicine while emphasizing responsible, evidence-informed approaches.
