The Ministry of Coal's Nominated Authority opened bids for the 15th round of Commercial Coal Blocks' Auction on July 10, 2026, which was conducted together with the 2nd Attempt of the 13th and 14th Tranches. Across these combined rounds, bids were received for 8 coal blocks against the 23 blocks that were offered, demonstrating continued industry participation in India's commercial coal mining framework.

The bid opening process followed established procedures with online bids first being decrypted and opened electronically, followed by the opening of sealed envelopes containing offline bid documents. The entire process was conducted in the presence of participating bidders and displayed live on screen to ensure complete transparency. In total, 21 bids were received against the 8 coal blocks that attracted interest.

Participation included 16 companies, of which 4 were first-time bidders under the commercial coal mining regime, indicating growing industry confidence in the policy framework and opportunities within India's coal sector. The received bids will now be placed before a multi-disciplinary Technical Evaluation Committee for assessment. Bidders found technically qualified will be shortlisted for the electronic auction to be conducted on the MSTC portal.

The Ministry emphasized that the steady interest in commercial coal block auctions reaffirms the sector's attractiveness and its critical role in industrial growth and energy security, supporting India's broader development goals.
