The Ministry of Cooperation provided a status update on cooperative sugar mills in response to a parliamentary query. According to information received from the Government of Madhya Pradesh, there are no cooperative sugar mills in the Tendukheda Assembly constituency of Narsinghpur district. The district currently has eight operational private sugar mills, with two of these located within the Tendukheda Assembly Constituency.
The Central Government clarified that it does not establish cooperative sugar mills anywhere in the country. The sugar industry was removed from the list of industries requiring compulsory licensing through a press note dated August 31, 1998, as confirmed by the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
The Ministry of Cooperation has initiated measures to revive cooperative sugar mills across India. The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a statutory organization under the Ministry's administrative control, provides financial assistance for the revival and modernization of cooperative sugar mills. This assistance can be provided directly to Cooperative Sugar Mills or through State Governments for onward transmission to the mills. All funding is subject to due diligence and project viability assessment as per NCDC guidelines.
