The Ministry of Steel has established the India Steel Pavilion at Hall 1 of Bharat Mandapam as part of INNOPROM India 2026, the flagship Russian industrial exhibition in India running from September 9-11, 2026. The pavilion, themed "Forging Together - For Infinite Progress," showcases India's steel sector strength, growth story, and achievements, highlighting the country's journey toward becoming a global steel powerhouse. It presents the history, current engagements, and future opportunities for India-Russia collaboration specifically in areas of coking coal, nickel, specialty steel, research & development, and advanced steel technologies.
Key Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel including SAIL, NMDC, MOIL, and MECON are participating in the pavilion, showcasing their achievements, technological capabilities, and both ongoing and prospective collaboration opportunities with Russian industry across the entire steel and mining value chain.
A dedicated session on "India-Russia Collaboration on Steel Value Chain" was organized on the sidelines of the exhibition under the India-Russia Business Dialogue, with support from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The session was co-chaired by Shri Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, and H.E. Mr. Mikhail Yurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. Attendance included leading Russian steel, mining, and metallurgical companies, senior officials from the Ministry of Steel, CMDs and senior officials of the participating CPSEs, and representatives from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The discussions centered on the steel sector's role as a cornerstone of industrial development, infrastructure growth, and manufacturing competitiveness. Participants noted that India and Russia possess complementary strengths across the steel value chain, including raw material security, metallurgical technologies, production capabilities, and downstream applications. The session explored concrete opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation through investment, technology exchange, adoption of sustainable production practices, and enhancing supply chain resilience. The enhanced collaboration is viewed as supporting industrial modernization, fostering innovation in advanced steel products, and contributing to a deeper long-term economic and strategic partnership between the two nations.
