The Ministry of Tourism celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2026, with nationwide events focused on promoting wellness and holistic health within the tourism and hospitality ecosystem. This year's theme was "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," emphasizing the integration of yoga practices for physical vitality, mental well-being, emotional resilience, and healthy longevity.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat participated in a yoga session at Shantikshetra Ashram in Karjat, Maharashtra, where he stated that "Yoga enables us to serve society and the nation with our fullest potential by keeping both body and mind healthy." He also acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's efforts in making yoga a global practice.

The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), organized a special yoga program at The Ashok hotel in New Delhi. The event featured expert instructors from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) and attracted participation from more than 150 representatives from over 10 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), including senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Department of Public Enterprises.

Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, described yoga as "India's timeless gift to the world, promoting harmony between mind, body and spirit" and emphasized the theme's relevance for supporting healthier and more fulfilling lives. ITDC Managing Director Ms. Mugdha Sinha noted that this marked the second consecutive year of the "whole-of-CPSE approach" bringing together public sector enterprises in a collective commitment to health and well-being.

Additionally, Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) under the Ministry of Tourism organized yoga sessions and awareness programs across the country with participation from students, faculty members, and staff, encouraging young hospitality professionals to embrace wellness as an integral part of both personal and professional life.
