Ministry Reports 27,737 EV Charging Stations, FAME-II Funds Partially Used

The Ministry of Heavy Industries stated that setting up EV charging stations is unlicensed and open to private entrepreneurs.
Under FAME-II, Rs. 912.50 crore was sanctioned, with Rs. 895.48 crore released and Rs. 655.43 crore utilized for EV charging infrastructure.
An allocation of Rs. 2,000 crore under the PM E-DRIVE scheme has been made, but no funds have been released as of March 24, 2026.
As of March 1, 2026, a total of 27,737 EV charging stations have been installed in the last five years, with 22,753 currently operational.
