Mizuho Securities 13F Filing Highlights

Mizuho Securities filed its Form 13F for the second quarter, revealing two significant portfolio adjustments. It established a new position of 5 million shares in Sysco Corp (NYSE:SYY), having held zero shares in the prior quarter. The purchase likely occurred in April, coinciding with a decline in Sysco’s share price after the company announced a $29 billion acquisition of Jetro Restaurant Depot on 30 March; the stock fell from $80 to $70 before later recovering. The nomination window for Sysco remains open until 16 August.

Mizuho also increased its holding in Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NYSE:NCLH) from 1.8 million shares to 11.4 million shares, representing approximately 2.5 % of the company’s outstanding shares. The increase was made during the second quarter, with the stock having weakened in May, which may have presented a buying opportunity. Elliott Management holds an existing position in Norwegian Cruise Line and has reached an agreement with the company.

Gordon Haskett Research observed that Mizuho’s largest holdings have historically aligned with activist campaigns led by DE Shaw, although the nature of any connection in this instance is not clarified.
