The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will host the Global Wind Day 2026 Conference on June 15, 2026, in Goa, with the theme "Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration." The event will be led by Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi, who holds portfolios for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Senior representatives from multiple government agencies and industry bodies will participate, including the Central Electricity Authority, Solar Energy Corporation of India, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, National Institute of Wind Energy, Grid India, and industry associations IWTMA, WIPPA, and IWPA.
India has achieved the position of the world's fourth-largest wind power market. The country has set ambitious targets of reaching 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035, which forms a critical component of India's broader goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity and net-zero emissions by 2070. The sector demonstrated strong growth with a record 6.1 GW of capacity added in the 2025-26 period.
Minister Joshi emphasized that wind energy remains central to India's renewable strategy and stated that the conference will focus on shifting from ambition to execution. The conference will address key priorities including resource adequacy, grid readiness, capacity addition, domestic manufacturing competitiveness, export opportunities, and advancements in forecasting and renewable energy firming. Several industry reports and knowledge papers will be unveiled during the event, including "Elevating India's Wind Turbine Exports for Global Markets," which highlights India's potential to become a global hub for wind turbine manufacturing and exports.
The conference will feature plenary sessions and panel discussions bringing together government officials, regulators, developers, manufacturers, and experts to identify practical measures for accelerating deployment, improving execution, and strengthening domestic capabilities. Secretary MNRE, Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, will also participate in the event, which serves as a key milestone in shaping the roadmap for sustained expansion of India's wind energy sector.
