Mumbai Port Authority celebrated its 154th Foundation Day on June 25, 2026, under the theme "Together We Can," recognizing contributions from officers, employees, workers, port users, shipping lines, trade partners, and stakeholders. The event was attended by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State Shantanu Thakur.
The port announced 63 projects with a total investment value of ₹5,028.17 crore across three phases: 7 projects for inauguration worth ₹132.29 crore, 34 projects for foundation stone laying worth ₹1,354.59 crore, and 22 projects for announcement worth ₹3,541.29 crore. These initiatives are part of the port's ongoing development efforts in cruise tourism, waterfront development, green practices, and asset utilization.
Union Minister Sonowal highlighted Mumbai Port's special place in India's maritime journey and its role in creating opportunities for investment, tourism, logistics, and energy security. He specifically mentioned initiatives including the International Cruise Terminal, ferry jetty projects, Jawahar Dweep reclamation, and energy infrastructure projects. Minister Thakur emphasized the port's important responsibility in India's journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
Secretary Vijay Kumar noted the port's achievement of its highest-ever cargo throughput of 70 million tonnes and emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration for growth, efficiency, and service excellence. The event featured the exchange of two significant agreements: the Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance Agreement and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Agreement, both aimed at strengthening port operations and waterfront development.
The program included a Foundation Day video showcasing the port's journey and contributions to India's maritime sector, as well as a video marking 100 years of the Mumbai Port Sports Club. Awards were presented to sports achievers, stakeholders, and employees in recognition of their service and contributions. Chairperson Dr. M. Angamuthu welcomed dignitaries and participants, while Deputy Chairperson Adesh Titarmare delivered the vote of thanks.
