National Academy of Agricultural Sciences convened a session to develop a comprehensive roadmap for achieving fertilizer self-reliance by 2047.
India consumes nearly 33 million tonnes of fertilizers annually with significant import dependency and a subsidy burden of ₹1.71 lakh crore in 2024-25.
Key strategies include strengthening Soil Health Card scheme, promoting balanced use, and adopting precision agriculture technologies to enhance efficiency.
The session set a goal to replace 25% of mineral fertilizers with organic manures within three years through integrated nutrient management.
