Namo Bharat RRTS Operational Status and Performance
India's first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, the 82.15 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut route (including 23 km of Meerut metro network), has been fully operational since February 2026. The implementing agency, National Capital Region Transport Corporation Ltd. (NCRTC), reports that over 3.8 crore commuters have utilized the services since operations began, achieving a punctuality level exceeding 99%. The corridor features effective multimodal integration with three Metro lines, two railway stations, and four bus terminals, complying with guidelines from the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre, DDA.
Expansion Plans and Project Development
In Phase-I, three RRTS corridors have been prioritized: Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut (fully operational), Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat. NCRTC has submitted Detailed Project Reports for additional corridors from Delhi to Karnal, Delhi to Bawal, Bawal to Behror, and Ghaziabad to Noida International Airport. These projects undergo intensive examination at different levels in the Central Government due to their cost-intensive nature, with financial assistance considered based on proposal feasibility and resource availability.
Development Interventions and Sustainability Measures
NCRTC has implemented several specific interventions including the delineation and notification of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Zones in the masterplans of Ghaziabad and Meerut, with special areas designated for TOD. Under Delhi TOD policy 2021, Influence Zone Plans have been prepared for TOD Nodes at Jangpura and Sarai Kale Khan. The Delhi TOD Policy 2026 automatically considers any new RRTS corridor under TOD provisions. The corporation has installed a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of 7.8 MWp to harness green energy.
Fare Structure and Commuter Benefits
The fare structure includes a 35% discount on base fare for all commuters, supplemented by a loyalty points system where commuters earn points for traveling on the RRTS network, which can be used to avail additional discounts. This information was formally provided by the Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on August 6, 2026.
